Description
The carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua) originates from the Mediterranean region and can reach a total height of 10 – 15 metres. It belongs to the legume family and is considered extremely robust when it comes to high temperatures, soil conditions and drought. However, the carob tree is very sensitive to frost and should be well protected against any frost in winter. Ceratonia siliqua is known for its edible fruits, the carob pods, which are used to make foods such as confectionery, baked goods and ice cream.
