Juniperus chinensis stricta – Chinese juniper

Description

Juniperus chinensis (common name Chinese juniper) is native to China, Japan and Korea and belongs to the cypress family. The evergreen plant can reach a height of up to 25 metres and grows at altitudes of up to more than 2000 metres. Depending on the species, Juniperus chinensis grows as an upright tree or as a ground creeping shrub. The plant loves plenty of sun, a slightly acid soil with good drainage and should always be kept slightly moist without excess water. The subspecies Juniperus chinensis stricta stays smaller and is often used as a bonsai.
