Description
Cupressus Sempervirens is native to the Mediterranean region, where it grows in a variety of different soils. It is considered very tolerant to PH values and soil compositions. It is also very climate tolerant and grows very well both in the hot and dry areas of southern Europe, as well as in the cooler regions of central and northern Europe. It is considered insensitive to great heat, long periods of drought and also conditionally to frost. Only in prolonged periods of frost with temperatures below – 20 degrees Celsius, frost damage to the plant can occur.
The Mediterranean cypress is popular in Europe as a hedge plant and as a large specimen plant. Its strong growth allows the rapid formation of large and dense hedges that protect against wind and serve as a screen. When creating hedges, no more than 2 plants should be planted per meter, as Cupressus Sempervirens can reach a total height of up to 35 meters and a diameter of up to 1 meter under optimal conditions.
