Description
Dried (dehydrated) Sphagnum moss (Peat Moss) can store up to 30 times its own weight in water and has antibacterial properties that reduce the risk of fungal and mold infestation in plants. It is mainly used as a substrate additive for carnivorous, orchid and bonsai design to keep the delicate roots hydrated and to loosen the substrate and allow more air to reach the roots. It is also very useful as a substrate in the propagation of plants by cuttings and woody cuttings, as again it largely prevents young plants from drying out.
Spaghnum moss can also be used very well in terrariums, as the slow evaporation of the water stored in the moss creates a useful microclimate for amphibians and reptiles.
To preserve the beneficial properties of Spaghnum moss, it should always be kept moist and not exposed to direct sunlight. If possible, rainwater or osmosis water should be used.
1 kg of dehydrated moss corresponds to about 50 liters of hydrated moss.
